The Coder Shortage with ICD-10 Looming – What’s Your Plan?
Introducing Part 1 of an interactive 3-part series:
Join M*Modal Director of HIM Product Services Karen Karban for a 3-part webinar series, “Strategies for Keeping Productivity High During ICD-10 Implementation”.
It’s no secret that there’s a concerning medical coder shortage nationwide. But what may surprise you is that current estimates place the shortage at 30%. As we move towards ICD-10-CM/PCS implementation, that shortage will only increase. The stakes are high and ICD-10 readiness begins with having the necessary staff with the right skill set.
To mitigate the chronic coder shortage, healthcare organizations have attempted to institute, with limited success, “grow-your-own” coder education programs. Given today’s complex healthcare environment driven by Federally-mandated imperatives, organizations often have to get more done with fewer resources, making it difficult to sustain such education programs.
To address the critical need of adding more qualified and experienced coders to the workforce, M*Modal has successfully piloted a Coder Apprenticeship Program over the last 18 months. During this discussion, we will share our experience and our findings, and talk about how you can utilize them to address some of your challenges.
After This Webinar You’ll Have:
- Increased confidence in outsourced coding support
- Knowledge that work is being done in the U.S. with firm adherence to HIPAA, compliance and quality standards
- Insights into how qualified candidates can begin a career in coding by getting the experience necessary to join the workforce
